Multiplex Detection of Validated Tumor Markers
Drug Discovery & Development - August 18, 2008

WideScreen Biomarker Assay KitsTo accelerate the progress of cancer drug discovery and preclinical studies, EMD (the North American affiliate of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany) in partnership with Rules Based Medicine (RBM) has released the first of a series of new WideScreen Biomarker Assay Kits. These multiplex immunoassays, for the Luminex xMAP Technology platform, utilize technologies that have been validated by RBM in its HumanMAP and RodentMAP service platform.

Key biomarkers for each panel are known to be involved directly or indirectly in a disease process. WideScreen Biomarker Assay Kits are developed for the emerging needs of scientists and address the key biomarker requirements of relevance, validation, and quality.

These multiplex assays are used by leading pharma and biotech companies worldwide to provide valuable insight into the development of new drugs and proof-of-concept clinical studies. To ensure gold standard-quality data and to maximize the knowledge gained from precious, often limited samples, the panels are validated using CLSI/NCCLS quality standards.

WideScreen Human Cancer Panel 1 can be used to detect six critical tumor biomarkers in human serum, plasma, or tissue culture supernatant samples. These biomarkers were carefully chosen to serve as sensitive, relevant, and specific indicators of a variety of tumors. Biomarkers detected in the WideScreen Human Cancer Panel 1 are: alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), CA 125, CA 15-3, CA 19-9, carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), and prolactin. The kit includes all reagents, controls, and buffers needed to perform 96 tests.
