Accelrys Now Supports Microsoft Office SharePoint
Drug Discovery & Development - May 26, 2009

Accelrys, Inc. a provider of scientific business intelligence software and services, announced it now supports Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 as a publication platform for Accelrys' scientific applications.

"As one of the fastest growing products in Microsoft's history, SharePoint Server is currently used by many of the top pharmaceutical and chemical companies as a collaboration and content management tool," said Accelrys' Chief Science Officer Frank Brown, PhD. "We are excited to announce the integration of our Pipeline Pilot Enterprise Server with SharePoint Server. Our embedded solution will fill the gap for SharePoint Server users in the scientific community by providing customers with the means to access and use large amounts of scientific data to gain insight and make informed decisions in the areas of discovery and development."

"Life science companies today are facing major challenges in the areas of research, discovery and development, particularly with the sheer volume of data and an inability to collaborate and share information effectively among teams," said Dr. Rudy Potenzone, worldwide life sciences industry technology strategist, Microsoft Corp. "Accelrys' cutting-edge technology will empower customers who already utilize Microsoft Office SharePoint Server with advanced, highly vertical tools that enable scientific collaboration and ultimately help them make better business decisions."

The Microsoft Office SharePoint Server integration will allow Accelrys applications to be executed and displayed from the familiar, widely supported and easy-to-use SharePoint Server environment through Pipeline Enterprise Server, the Accelrys scientific business intelligence platform.

Dr. Potenzone, who also serves as the Director of the BioIT Alliance, added, "This product advancement by Accelrys, one of the founding members of the BioIT Alliance, demonstrates two of the goals of the Alliance: encouraging novel technologies for use by the Members; and fostering collaboration between them. SharePoint will serve as a key integration point between these Accelrys tools and products of other Alliance members in the future."
