As part of an ongoing expansion of its Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC)-accredited and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)-compliant facility in San Diego, Absorption Systems has added an ocular testing laboratory with Heidelberg Spectralis optical coherence tomography (OCT) unit. The instrument produces digital images of the retina, enabling monitoring of the efficacy and toxicity of drugs and medical devices.
The facility expansion includes renovations to upgrade and expand the company’s in vivo testing capabilities for drugs and medical devices and an expansion of staff, equipment, and capabilities in preclinical ocular drug and device testing.
The company’s preclinical ocular test portfolio includes in vivo ocular pharmacokinetics, efficacy, and safety in multiple species, as well as in vitro ocular permeability and metabolism.
